The first thing that occurs to the mind when one mentions best beaches in India are the much celebrated beaches of Goa. But, there is so much more to beaches of India than just Goa. The country is truly blessed in this regard and a number of other states boast of gorgeous beaches that can put some of the beaches in Goa to shame.
Here are some beaches in India that besides Goa that will make you forget all about Goa!
1. Paradise Beach, Pondicherry
At a meager 8 kilometers from Pondicherry, hidden in plain sight is this isolated beach called Paradise. It lives up every bit to the name with long stretches of sand and dancing coconut trees. You have to cross the Chunnambar backwaters to reach this place and what welcomes you is a sight that is hard to put into words. Indeed, Pondi is one of the best destinations for beach holidays in India.

2. Elliots beach, Chennai
Not all beaches in Chennai deserve to be on this list, but this one surely does. Chennai one of the most rapidly developing coastal cities of India hence, crowd is something you can't really get rid of! Despite that, this one is great for long walks and moonlit rendezvous’, Elliots beach is clean and well maintained. The Karl Schmidt memorial, dedicated to a Dutch sailor is located here. Catch a sunset here, and you'll agree, that this is one of the most beautiful beaches in South India.

Awarded Asia’s best beach and world’s seventh best beach by Times magazine in 2007, Radhanagar is truly a piece of heaven. Beauty like this is hard to come by.
4. Kashid, Maharashtra
Alibaug’s quieter cousin, Kashid boasts of a jaw dropping coastline with soft white sands and joyful waters. There are some interesting shacks here too, serving everything right from maggi to Maharashtrian fare. If you manage to catch this beach when it’s not that crowded, it’s a sheer delight to be on. 5. Tarkarli, Maharashtra
Sapphire waters and slippery sands await you at this beach haven. Quickly gaining popularity for its natural treasures, this beach is great for scuba diving too. Tarkarli is located at the confluence of the Karli river and the Arabian sea. This marriage makes the whole landscape dreamy and surreal.
