Known as the historical triple-decker, this is undeniably one of the most impressive archaeological sites of Rome. Originally a 1st and 2nd century Roman apartment and Pagan temple, a church was built over it in the 4th century and later in 12th century, a bigger church topped this double-decker.
Up until late 19th century, only the 12th century church was visible and the hidden layers were discovered in 1857 by Friar Joseph Mulloly.
Today, you can descend all the three structures and enjoy the artistic and architectural difference of the three structures that are nestling in harmony for centuries.
