Right from iconic buildings, grand cathedrals, relaxing waterfront, and open-air markets, the city has the potential to keep you grappled for days. The city combines European majesty with Latin zeal and is captivating, seductive, and bustling.

If you have a week in hand, this 7-day Buenos Aires itinerary that will let you explore the heart and soul of the city.

What to see in Buenos Aires in 7 days?

Day 1:

Start your day by visiting the Jardin Japones in the morning. While thousands of miles apart, a visit to these gardens will make you feel that you are in fact in Japan. The Buenos Aires Japanese Gardens are one of the largest Japanese Gardens outside of Japan. The many gardens, a cultural center, a restaurant, and a greenhouse will take a major part of your day. For lunch, we suggest you visit the Palermo Soho, one of the largest plazas in town. This neighborhood has tonnes of café and restaurants, parks, museums, galleries, shops, and artisanal markets. In the evening, you can wander around the Plaza de Mayo and check out many touristy spots like Cabildo (Buenos Aires's original city hall), the Catedral Metropolitana, and the Casa Rosada.

Day 2:

Head to Recoleta on your day 2. One of the most affluent and scrollable areas of the city, Recoleta has its own set of sites that you might want to explore. After a lazy breakfast, start your day at a leisurely pace. First head to Recoleta Cemetery where some of the country’s national icons like Eva Perón rest. Later, walk to Centro Cultural Recoleta to check out some of the most impressive art exhibits in the city. After walking through the neighborhood, stop for coffee at La Biela which is one of the most famous cafes in town. This side of the city has many shopping avenues. After shopping, or window shopping, head to La Bourgogne for a world-class fine dining experience.

Day 3:

Explore yet another neighborhood today. Head to San Telmo to visit one of the best open-air bazaars in the city. Buy from a range of antiques and souvenirs to take back home. The market here is extremely lively with many street performers performing a live tango. After a lazy lunch, head to Calle Defensa to check out more street-lined shops.

Day 4:

Begin your day 4 by visiting the Galerias Pacifico. Here the visitors are treated to old-world architecture and luxurious shopping avenues. Known for its many expensive retailers, this place attracts the most elite crowds in town. Later, walk to Basilica del Santisimo Sacramento. This 20th-century impressive basilica has five imposing towers and impressive and lavish interiors. All the art lovers can then proceed to Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes for some of the finest art collections in the city. Just a few steps ahead, you can visit the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires before calling it a day.

Day 5:

Visit the many churches of the city today. Start with Catedral Metropolitana. A burial site of General Jose de San Martin, this church is one of the top attractions of Buenos Aires. Though the church building looks like a very commercial building from outside. Just a few steps away, next visit the 18th-century Basilica Nuestra Senora de la Merced. Oldest and most storied buildings in the city, this church has an intricate artwork both on the outside and also in the inside. Later in the afternoon, head to Puerto Madero to relax and unwind at this beautiful waterfront.

Day 6:

Day 6 of your 7D/6N Buenos Aires will have a lot of culture and art. Start early and drive to La Plata today. This planned city is known for its many distinctive and diagonal avenues. Start your tour by first visiting the La Plata Museum. This museum is home to many fossils of the long-extinct beasts. Next, make your way to Pasaje Dardo Rocha. The once-upon-a-time train station is today one of the most important cultural sites in the city. The building’s Renaissance-style architecture is pretty impressive, and the insides have some of the most amazing collection of arts. Before heading back to Buenos Aires, make sure you visit the Catedral de la Plata. One of the biggest cathedrals in South America, this Neo-Gothic cathedral opened in 1902.

Day 7:

On day 7, we suggest you take a day trip to Tigre. Located 32 kilometers north of the city, this town is a gateway to the many rivers and wetlands of the Paraná Delta, and hundreds other tiny islands and waterways. Visit the town’s busy markets and many rowing clubs on this day trip. This peaceful town also boats a variety of artisan markets. Horseback riding, hiking, fishing, and swimming, the activities here are many.
